As all of these businesses were failing, investors from other countries lost interest and went back to their own countries or others to invest. Also the Latin States had introduced a large role in developing a sense of national identity which I think has a lot to do with their well kept independence. Nearly each country was divided by their own region, language, ethical and racial diversity. This made the development of a steady, stable political system possible as each region became its own. Because of this already established national identity, and lack of interest in declining economy, I believe other countries didnt want to waste their time and money to take on Pawl 2 seemingly worthless countries. This thus left the Latin American states independent during the age of Imperialism. 2. Assess the full-blown individualism that characterized American domestic and foreign policies after 1865. Were domestic corruption and foreign aggressiveness symbolic of the New America? Domestic corruption and foreign aggressiveness were indeed symbolic of the New America. I believe this caused for the American people to loose sight of ethical practices like making African Americans second class citizens. Leading up to this is many internal incidents by authoritative figures. An example being the corruption of New Works Williams Tweed stealing state money. President Ulysses Grants term was also publicized with scandals and frauds. Financiers Jay Gould and Jim Fish Examples had also found a way to tamper with the nations financial stability. Acts of corruption done by those of higher order had sent a message out to the public that brought forth the issue of domestic corruption. At this time America wanted to abstain from political and economic relations with outside countries. The creation of alliances were to be avoided. The reasoning behind all this is that during this time period, we did not have the finances or resources to get involved with other countries, our focuses were solely internal. If I was in charge of the U. S. Foreign policy before 1914, I wouldve Just left the Latin Americas alone and limited the involvement with them to be strictly trade based. I would not help nor hinder the Latin Americas and allow their countries to do they wish until they show harm or threat to my own country and my people. Essentially, I wouldnt change anything. Why? Because 100 years later, American diplomacy is still strong and kicking. National security is still among some of the highest, our trade market is well off, and democracy is a well known thing. Americas focus had been at where it should be, human rights, seeking peace, trade/commerce, war, and the economy. For that, I wouldnt change a thing.
